The term Islamic medicine, Arabic medicine, or Arab medicine refers to medicine that developed in the golden age of Islam, and was written in Arabic, which was the language of common communication in the time of Islamic civilization. Islamic medicine arose as a result of the interaction that took place between Arab traditional medicine and external influences. The first translations of medical texts were an essential factor in the formation of Islamic medicine, and Latin translations of Arabic works had a profound impact on the development of medicine at the end of the Middle Ages and the beginning of the Renaissance.
