On June 11, 2009, the World Health Organization (WHO) signaled that a pandemic of H1N1 flu was underway. (1)
The 2009 H1N1 influenza is a global outbreak of international importance, therefore the Islamic Organization for Medical Sciences (IOMS) believes that it should take part in this global issue and shed the light on the scientific facts about the pandemic.
One of the most important issues that we have been keen to search and present is the safety of H1N1 vaccines which is a matter of concern for many people. According to the FDA, four influenza A (H1N1) monovalent vaccines have been licensed (approved); three of them are injectable and produced by CSL Limited, Novartis Vaccines and Diagnostics Limited and Sanofi Pasteur, Inc. while the fourth vaccine is and intranasal vaccine produced by MedImmune LLC. In IOMS we make sure that the information we publish are robust and reliable, therefore we have relied on three important and credible sources which are the World Health Organization (WHO), the American Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and the American Center for Diseases Control and Prevention (CDC).
It was intended not to publish any statistics concerning morbidity or mortality as they are changing on daily basis.
As the situation differs from one place to another, it is up to each local health authority to set its own measures accordingly.
We hope that the information presented on our website would be beneficial and that the pandemic would be eradicated in the near future.
